Introduction | 2017 Alumni Presentation-Ken C. Chiu, MD, FACE, FACP "Conundrum of vitamin D and calcium supplement." -The different perspectives of endocrine versus autocrine/paracrine function of vitamin D lead to significant disagreement among various professional organizations. The difference mainly arises from the target of 25-hydroxyvitamin D level and threshold effect of vitamin D. There is much less disagreement among various professional organizations. However, the relative importance of calcium versus vitamin D supplement will be discussed with emphasis of recently recognized adverse effects associated with calcium supplement. Ken C. Chiu, M.D., F.A.C.E. is a board certified endocrinologist and joined the City of Hope in July 2005 as the site director of Endocrinology Fellowship Training Program.
