| Introduction | Dear respected professors, researchers and collaborators: It is our great honor and pleasure to once again host the Stanford- Taiwan mini-symposium on ALDH2 deficiency and human disease here at Taipei Medical University. Last year’s ground breaking 1st symposium was a complete success because of your participation and enthusiasm. ALDH2 deficiency and acetaldehyde toxicity awareness was brought into the light by the media exposure and people in general are now more aware of this condition and its potential association with a wide range of disorders. We would like to invite all of you back as well as new friends to participate in this wonderful event on July 30th, (Saturday). This year, we have expanded from a half-day program to a full-day program with many more presentations to include invited international speakers and more time for networking, discussion among investigators. We are also honored to have the support from the Journal of Biomedical Science (funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, MOST, Taiwan) to agree on the publication of a special issue on ALDH2 deficiency related research. This special issue will comprise two review articles and four original articles. We highly encourage any participants of this symposium to submit your original research or review manuscripts to this well-respected journal.
