IntroductionThe eradication of smallpox and the control of tobacco are examples of Public Health success on the global scale. The epidemic of non-communicable diseases, in particular diabetes, has been highlighted as a major global health challenge in this century. In the decades ahead, will we see the same success as we have seen for smoking control and smallpox eradication?\r\nSingapore declared a “War on Diabetes” in 2016. The War was the result of strong academic-government partnership. However, to succeed in this war, there is a need to involve not just the Ministry of Health but a Whole-of-Government approach. This approach must bring along with it the participation of all sectors of society: public, private and people sectors. Academic Public Health need to enable this Whole-of-Society engagement. It is not enough to be able to translate research findings into policies; it is also equally important to enable society to adopt the policies.
